Greater Bay Philharmonic Orchestra (“GBPO”) was founded in 2020 as a charitable organization endorsed by the Hong Kong SAR Government.
Under the leadership of the founder and Music Director Li Nan, this young orchestra is now showcasing its profound classical music background and artistic accomplishment, as well as its endless creativity and diverse cultural vitality, blooming with brilliance in the music circle and receiving great attention from all sectors. In addition to regularly holding high-profile concerts every year, the orchestra
is also frequently invited to perform at important festivals, creating unforgettable
artistic feasts with its high performance standards.
Our Founder and Music Director
Li Nan, Founder and Music Director
Li Nan is the founder and Music Director of Greater BayPhilharmonic Orchestra. Li Nan has shown her interest andtalent in music since she was young. She has studied inBeijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Japan and other places,and has studied under many top musicians such as thefamous Japanese conductor Mr. Norichika limori, andobtained a Master’s degree in Music from Hong KongBaptist University.
Our Guest Conductor
Norichika Iimori, Guest Conductor
Norichika Iimori graduated from the conducting course of the Toho Gakuen School of Music. After studying in Berlin and Munich, beginning in 1994 he held successive posts including Resident Conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, Guest Conductor of the Tchaikovsky Symphony Orchestra of Moscow Radio, and Resident Conductor of the Hiroshima Symphony Orchestra.
In 1996 he led the European tour of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra and was lauded in a newspaper which said, "Iimori will surely go on to attract international attention." In 2003, in his first appearance in a subscription concert of the NHK Symphony Orchestra, Iimori conducted a successful performance of Mahler’s 1st Symphony. In 2006 he was awarded the “Art Encouragement Prize for New Artists” from the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology. Iimori has been invited to conduct many world-class orchestras including the Radio Symphony Orchestra Frankfurt, Cologne Radio Symphony Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic, and Prague Symphony Orchestra. In 2001 he became General Music Director of the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra, with which he recorded the complete Beethoven Symphonies and carried out a successful Japan tourin2006.
Currently, NorichikaIimori is General Artistic Director of the Yamagata Symphony Orchestra, Principal Conductor of the Japan Century Symphony Orchestra, Special Guest Conductor of the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra (1994-2020 Resident Conductor), Principal Guest Conductor of the Württemberg Philharmonic Orchestra, Principal Guest Conductor of the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Chubu Philharmonic Orchestra.
